Windows Movie Maker is a free video editing software by Microsoft that allows users to create visually appealing, movie-like videos almost effortlessly. Prior to this class I had very little experience with the software. I had used it for a few projects here and there throughout high school, but I never really took the time to see all of the unique features it had to offer.
After working with Movie Maker for a week now, I definitely think it is much easier than Photo Story and not only is it easier, but it is also much more "put-together" and professional.  Although, it may be harder for younger users to navigate.
Despite the trickiness of the program, I definitely think Movie Maker is an amazing tool to use in the classroom! Not only is it a great way to may new and engaging lessons for students, but it is also a great tool to utilize when you plan on being out of the classroom and have to have a substitute teach the lesson. With Movie Maker you can design and create your own lesson, so students can hear your own voice and see your face if you choose to include a video. This would not only make students feel more comfortable with the sub, but it would also help keep them on track, since not all subs will know how to teach the current lesson you are teaching.
In addition to this, Movie Maker is a great resource to use if you wish to make a video introducing yourself to parents and students before the school year starts! I remember when I was in elementary school, the most exciting thing was finding out who your teacher was going to be, and with this program, students can already have an idea of who you are before they even meet you, making the transition much less scary! Also, Movie Maker can be used to make a "graduation" video at the end of the year, that shows all of the pictures and activities from the school year! And if you want to surprise students with a gift at the end of the year, you can easily burn the video onto individual CD's for each of the students to take with them!
All in all, I definitely think Movie Maker is an amazing classroom tool- and i cannot wait to use it in my own classroom one day! Do you guys know any other cool ways to use Movie Maker in the classroom?
